Puerto Rico Is Building A $2.5 Billion Resort Community
Earlier this month Puerto Rico authorized the construction of a $2.5 billion resort community on the southwest coast designed to operate independently from the island’s power and water systems. When completed, the solar-powered Esencia will cover more than 2,000 acres near Boquerón Bay and will bring together several luxury hospitality brands—including Mandarin Oriental, Aman, and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts—as well as residential neighborhoods, a golf course, beach club, a school and medical facilities. The first phase of Esencia is expected to be completed in 2028.
