1. Register for a free library card online and get quick access to downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, movies, and tv shows to your digital device.

Through digital streaming services like hoopla, Libby, and kanopy, our patrons downloaded 76,723 items, a whopping 31% increase compared to 2023.

2. Check out a kit!

Focus on health and exercise with our Wellness Kits. Strengthen your connection with a person with memory loss with our Memory Kits. 3. Need a document notarized? Schedule an appointment with our notary!

In 2023, our notary met with 58 people, a 38% increase!

4. Think of the library when special community events or emergencies happen.

During the pandemic, Wood Library distributed thousands of free Covid test kits. And, we distributed more than 4,000 pairs of certified glasses for the 2024 eclipse.

5. Is a friend or loved one housebound? Learn more about Books by Mail.

This free system-wide service delivers library materials to homebound individuals and is perfect for people who can’t get to the library.

6. Explore a local attraction using one of our Very Important Place Passes (VIP).

Our passes offer admission discounts to several area museums, parks, and historic places like NYS parks, the Genesee Country Village & Museum, and Rochester Museum and Science Center.

7. Design and submit a file to our 3D printer.

Print a fun knick knack or something more practical like a hook or tool.

8. Schedule an appointment with an AARP Tax Aide.

Get your taxes filed for free. Over 500 people took advantage of this service last year, a 12% increase!

9. Discover a new space.

Find a quiet place to work or study by using one of our tutor spaces, let your little one explore the reading tree or log cabin in the Children’s Room, reserve a meeting room free-of-charge for your community group, or take in the local art exhibit in our upstairs art gallery.

10. Ask for help.

Need help printing a document from your phone? Struggling with how to write a resume? Don’t know where to turn? The library can be your first stop. If we don’t know the answer, we will find out who does. In 2023, 2,465 reference questions were successfully answered by library staff, so you’re not alone!

11. Watch for exciting new projects in 2024.

Soon you will spot a Little Free Farm Stand on library property which will be stocked with fresh produce and plants provided by local community members from their gardens. Later this summer, an outdoor Reading Garden will be completed, allowing us to expand our programming with an emphasis on sustainability.

12. And, most important, make a human connection.

Are you a new mom? Come to Storytime. Are you or a family member struggling with a recent medical diagnosis? Find support with the Parkinson’s Support Group, Cancer Support Group, or Alzheimer’s Association classes. Do you live alone? Come to a library program and make new friends. We offer: Tai Chi, Zumba, Knitters’ Konnection, Quilting Group, Dishes from Around the World cooking classes, book discussion groups, and craft classes. Need a warm, welcoming place to go? Library staff are always ready to greet you with a smile and brighten your day.

So you have my permission to blow the lid off, spill the beans, or let the cat out of the bag and share these secrets with others. Be like the other 83,971 visitors we had last year. If you haven’t been to Wood Library in awhile, stop by. We are open 7 days a week. There is always something new to explore.
