The Alarming Reawakening Of Afghanistan’s Militant Networks – OpEd
The Transatlantic Intelligence Consortium has added to an already growing chorus of international alarm at what has come to be widely referred to as the alarmingly loose security situation in Afghanistan.
Although the Consortium is not a formal state institution, all members of the Consortium are retired intelligence, military, and analytical professionals who are based in the West and non-Western states which gives some credibility to its judgments, which cannot be discredited by the policymaking community. Its latest report that enumerates a list of up to forty-four terror groups that operate within Afghanistan gives a grim picture of a country where militancy not only is nurtured but also procreated without much oversight. The findings confirm a growing perception among the global capitals that Afghanistan has developed into a new target of the extremist elements within the region and the implications of the trend are catastrophic to the security of the region and the world at large.
The Consortium story revolves around the unique purpose where the aim is to provide a coherent, factual account to dishearten the hurricane of false claims being hawked by the interconnected groups of adversaries. The magnitude of militancy is normally attempted to be hidden by these networks operating either through digital and political platforms who would present Afghanistan as a state that has brought major threats under control.
