Statistics Canada’s latest inflation report, the Consumer Price Index, shows that prices overall increased in May by 3.2% compared to a year earlier.

Food prices were up 4.3% year over year, with the price of tomatoes climbing 45% due to a shortage out of Mexico. StatsCan tracked the price for fresh vegetables increasing by 5.5%.

“This is the largest monthly May increase since 2008 and is attributed to reduced supply and higher fuel costs,” StatsCan said.
