Council pursued Sheringham bus shelter revamp despite 74pc of people opposing it
A Freedom of Information Request has revealed a vast majority of respondents to a consultation urged Norfolk County Council not to go ahead with the transport scheme in the north Norfolk town.
The figures come weeks after protestors staged a fiercely fought protest to protect a much-loved 1950s bus shelter - which was due to be demolished - by staging a 24-hour sit-in for nearly a fortnight.
But senior county councillors have dismissed the suggestion they ignored the views of Sheringham and said the consultation was not a "referendum" on whether or not the scheme should go ahead.

Work has now stalled at Ottendorf Green site near the railway station after Sheringham Town Council, which owns the land, voted to no longer support knocking it down.
Out of 547 responses, more than 400 people stated they opposed the scheme and 130 of those felt the project was a "waste of money that should be spent elsewhere".
