With the Britten Centre toilets now back open again, it comes after East Suffolk Council said in September last year that an agreement had been reached with the Britten Centre management company to re-open the public toilet block.

The toilets have faced sporadic closures over the years due to vandalism and repairs.

But with concerns raised by locals over the poor provision of public toilets in the town centre amid the temporary closure of the toilets on Gordon Road due to the £24.7m Lowestoft Cultural Quarter development, the council said that alternative toilets are available at Lowestoft Bus Station, Lowestoft Rail Station, the Triangle Market, in Lowestoft Library and at East Point Pavilion on Royal Plain.

Last September cllr Paul Ashton, cabinet member for assets at East Suffolk, said the Britten Centre toilets were being refurbished, and "the council will supplement the cleaning regime to ensure they stay in a good condition".

The council said that nearly £2m per year is spent on toilet provision across the district.
