Norfolk council being 'challenged by government' to raise taxes by maximum amount

Under Breckland Council’s newly approved draft budget for the coming financial year, Band D properties would face the biggest hit, with an annual rise of £4.95 – just 5p short of the £5 limit that would trigger a public referendum.

Homes in Bands A to C would also see smaller increases.

At Monday’s cabinet meeting, Conservative councillor Bill Borrett said the council had been “challenged by the government to increase council tax to the maximum” ahead of a local government shake-up that will see Breckland dissolved.
