Harry Clark, who has been the primary clerk of Attleborough Town Clerk since February, said bitter feuding on the embattled council and unrealistic administrative demands have left it under "sustained strain".

In the email, sent to Vera Dale, the council's newly elected chair, Mr Clark said working in an environment "impacted by ongoing infighting" was having an adverse impact on the mental health on those who work for the council.

The email, which has been seen by this newspaper, makes Mr Clark the latest figure to speak out about the crisis-hit authority, which has lurched from scandal to scandal in recent months.
