Anteros Art Foundation in Fishergate has been forced to pay more than £6,000 to repair cracked walls at the site, which they claim Cadent Gas damaged while fixing a leak.

Sue Bergin, a spokeswoman for the foundation, said: “As a charity, it’s a struggle to finance repair works like this.

“It’s hard for us.

“In July this year, a gas leak was found under the pavement running parallel to the exterior wall of Anteros Arts Foundation.
