And the seven candidates vying for votes have set out why they want you to put a mark next to their name on the ballot sheet.

Tomorrow's election to the £76,000-a-year post is happening after previous incumbent Sarah Taylor resigned last month.

The role of the police and crime commissioner includes setting the police and crime objectives and the force budget, including how much people pay in council tax.

The by-election will cost an estimated £2m for the role which is due to be axed in two years' time when it becomes part of the responsibility of the new Norfolk and Suffolk mayor.

Polling stations are open between 7am and 10pm on Thursday (July 16) with the results to be declared the following day.

These are the candidates and their priorities:

Chris Brown has been the Lib Dem group leader on South Norfolk Council for seven years, representing Ditchingham and Earsham.

He also runs his own public relations consultancy business, Mancroft Communications.

He said his top three priorities were to tackle violence against women and girls, to transform crime prevention initiatives by working with partners and targeting reductions in anti-social behaviour and to improve rural crime response.

He said: "Norfolk deserves a PCC who will listen, provide effective scrutiny and focus on practical improvements that make communities safer.

"Within weeks I will launch a 100-day countywide ‘Norfolk Community Conversation’, ensuring all communities and key groups have the opportunity to contribute through an in-depth, open and honest two-way conversation about policing and crime in the county."
