New plaque to commemorate artist sent to workhouse 'lunatic ward'

The life of Lorina Bulwer, who stitched her thoughts during her time on the 'lunatic ward' of Great Yarmouth Workhouse into lengthy fabric 'letters', is to be marked with the commemorative plaque.

Beccles-born Miss Bulwer moved to Great Yarmouth in the 1860s, where she lived with her mother in a terraced house in Crown Road, before moving to Audley Street.

Following her mother's death, Miss Bulwer was placed in Great Yarmouth Workhouse, on the site which now occupied by Northgate Hospital.
