Farmers and landowners warned of criminals dumping lorry loads of illegal waste
The Environment Agency (EA) says fly-tipping gangs are targeting secluded farmland under the cover of darkness - and it is calling on landowners to secure vulnerable sites this winter.
The agency is working in partnership with police, the National Farmers' Union (NFU), the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) and local authorities to tackle the problem.
It says criminals are forcing their way past locked gates to dump shredded waste on carefully selected sites including farmers' tracks and fields, lanes, industrial land, parkland and laybys.
