And she is not prepared to let things slide when utter and vile crap comes of the mouths of her political opponents.

Especially when the folks with the slurs actually double down on their words.

Like Thomas Lukaszuk, point man on the anti-independence petition and deputy premier to Alison Redford, a premier who made Sky Palace a household word in Alberta and was run out of office.

Smith is putting immigration on the ballot Oct. 19. The Alberta independence referendum will be on the same ballot if enough Albertans want a vote on that question.

Right now, there is a strong reaction throughout the country to the doors-wide-open immigration policy of former prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Smith says she heard loud and clear from Albertans. Alberta should take more control over immigration.

On the Oct. 19 ballot, the premier is asking Albertans whether they think those who are not citizens or permanent residents, who are here temporarily, should pay something toward the cost of health care and education for themselves and their families.

Out came the crazy talk. The Smith haters flipped their lids.

They compared Smith to Adolf Hitler’s Nazis.

Lukaszuk headed to social media and said populist governments need a scapegoat. For Hitler, it was the Jews. He implies for Smith it is immigrants.

Lukaszuk was not alone.

Former NDP premier Rachel Notley rewrote what many call the Holocaust poem and, instead of Jews as victims, it was immigrants along with school teachers and transgender people.

Read your history Rachel.

Ordering teachers back to work with a pay raise is nowhere near the same universe as sending Jews to the gas chamber.

Smith thought such talk was gross and disgusting and especially horrible for the Jewish people.

The Nazis were the Nazis. Comparisons must be avoided.

'Misguided': Calgarians who work with immigrants react to referendum questions

Sadly, voices among the self-styled progressives actually applauded Lukaszuk and Notley.

They didn’t see a problem.

Some of them believe Smith actually is the equivalent of a Nazi.

So it was no surprise what was to come. My hopes died over the weekend and on Monday.

I actually thought Lukaszuk and Notley would walk back their words.

You know, they were angry with Smith and took it too far.

Fat chance. Instead salt was rubbed in the wound.

Lukaszuk says he is glad Smith is offended.

He hopes it will cause her to reflect, no doubt reflect and agree with him because there is only one truth and he apparently has it.

On Monday, Smith says she hopes Lukaszuk would reflect on the reaction of the Jewish community, and the premier specifically mentions the Edmonton Jewish community.

“If you’re going to invoke Nazis and the Holocaust you better be talking about real Nazis and the real Holocaust,” says Smith.

“He should apologize and stop using that language.”

An apology from Lukaszuk? You can stop holding your breath now.

In speaking to this scribbler, Smith says comparing ballot questions to Nazism, however you try to stickhandle it, is “infantile” and “a playground kind of politics.”

“It is not a hallmark of serious people or a serious discussion.

“If you can’t have a serious discussion then you really don’t have much of a voice in the conversation.”

But they do, they do. It’s called drive-by smears on social media, the place many newshounds of the latest generation mistake for the real world.

“Let’s talk about the issue. It is very disrespectful to the Jewish people to be throwing around a term like that around where nothing could be further from the truth.”

As for NDP supporters raving about Smith’s referendum questions on immigration.

“The NDP try to scare people. They do that all the time. They make hysterical claims,” says Smith.

Oh, these so-called progressives claim they hate division but try to cancel those who disagree with them.

They claim to be inclusive but their Alberta doesn’t include about half the population of the province.

They claim to be tolerant but pride themselves on being intolerant. They tell us their intolerance is actually not intolerance at all but is just defendng the truth.

Another reason for their fury. They cannot fathom how Smith is not getting crucified in the polls. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Few political types challenged the Nazi slurs. Establishment conservatives did not stand with Smith.

The reason? They don’t like Smith. In fact, more than a few of them like Notley and Lukaszuk more than they like Smith.

Interesting how in the last provincial election it was reported Smith compared vaccinated Albertans to those Germans who followed Hitler.

I condemned her remarks as did many groups and as did Notley who said the comparison was “utterly horrifying.”

What did Smith do? She apologized and won the election.
