I was looking at a calendar of weird observances this week and learned that today – March 6 – is National Frozen Food Day.

Do we need a day to celebrate the stuff in the freezer?

Apparently so.

I struggle with this whole freezer concept, because in my house, the freezer is a strange little graveyard of forgotten foods.

There are two exceptions to this rule: frozen pizza and dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets. Maybe three exceptions – I’m pretty good about cooking frozen veggies.

But leftovers in the freezer? Nope. Once frozen, they are promptly out of mind.

I’m also exceptionally terrible about remembering to thaw frozen meats to make them cookable.

I had some frozen chicken that I thought would make a great dinner. And it might, one day, should I ever think to take it out and thaw it with enough time to make dinner!

In many ways, I’m a planner. But apparently not when it comes to that freezer!
