I was running errands the other day when out of the blue, it hit me. Another childhood tradition has ended.

Once upon a time, the first week of February would find my child and me working on crafts and snacks for Valentine’s Day to take to school. She’s in high school now, and that tradition ended a while ago.

When she was little, we would make cupcakes or chocolate-covered pretzels, and valentines for her classmates, and we decorated a box for the Valentine’s Day party.

But once high school hits, it’s rather anticlimactic, at least from a mom-child project perspective.

To all you parents out there, the ones struggling to get a classroom’s worth of valentines done while you try to figure out what your kid will bring to the class party, pause for a moment and appreciate it.

One day, you’ll find yourself standing in the aisle in the grocery store, aware that ship has sailed … and it’s surprising how much you really miss it!
