Back in April 2021, I fell out with my best friend of eight-and-a-half years, and we hadn’t spoken at all since then.

We share a mutual friend and somewhat knew what was going on with each other, but there weren’t any texts, social media connections, or anything between us. I lost some other friendships through our “divorce,” though I grew closer to her ex-boyfriend (he cut ties with her around that time, so we’d talk and support each other) while being cordial with her older brother.

But I recently texted her to wish her well, express that I think of her often, and say I hope she has a great 2024. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I got a nice response that shared similar sentiments and let me know we both still cherish what we had.

I’m not looking to revive our friendship or keep in touch. But it feels good to acknowledge each other, and who knows what the future may hold.
