The results are in, and Winnipeggers did not hesitate to point out which arenas need the most attention. The same names came up again and again, and anyone who spends time in these buildings understands why. Here are the top five you identified:

These facilities have served generations of families, yet they show the obvious signs of long-term neglect. Parents and volunteers keep doing their part. Kids keep showing up ready to skate. What the city has not done is maintain these assets in a consistent, disciplined way. Repairs are delayed until they become emergencies, which drives the final cost far higher. Homeowners know this. Business owners know this. Every study on public infrastructure says the same thing.

I referee at many of these rinks and see issues that most people never notice. The officials’ dressing rooms are an afterthought. Many are cramped, poorly maintained, and ignored. These spaces are in desperate need of attention. It sends a message when the people responsible for keeping games safe and fair are expected to prepare in rooms that look like they were forgotten years ago. It reflects the larger problem. When maintenance is treated as optional, everything suffers.
