VICTORIA — Abbotsford South MLA Bruce Banman is on the verge of announcing his candidacy for the B.C. Conservative leadership, having played a key role in the party’s drive to establish itself as the main rival to the B.C. NDP.

Banman joined the John Rustad-led Conservatives on Sept. 13, 2023. The move gave the party two seats in the legislature, official status and all that entails in resources, salaries, staffing and access to question period.
In quitting B.C. United, Banman said he was choosing a party of “common sense” over one of “political expediency.”
