VICTORIA — The co-chair of the provincial forestry advisory council added a light touch to the release of its final report on Monday by delivering his comments in front of a banner that declared “Groundhog Day.”

Sure enough, it was the day when rodents in various locations are scrutinized to discover if their shadows forecast the arrival of spring.
But, in this case, the reference was to the Bill Murray movie where the star is condemned by the fates to relive the same events over and over again.
“This keeps happening over and over again,” said council co-chair Garry Merkel as he presided over the release of what he characterized as “another freakin’ review” of B.C. forest policy.
