Here’s how NBC News and “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker, as if telling a toddler they can’t have more candy, broke the news that former Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel had joined the network as a paid commentator.

“I’ll be joined by former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel in her first interview since stepping down as party chair,” Welker announced to her viewers before the segment with McDaniel. “In full disclosure to our viewers, this interview was scheduled weeks before it was announced that McDaniel had become a paid NBC News contributor,” she disclosed. “This will be a news interview and I was not involved in her hiring,” added Welker.

So, some other interviews on “Meet the Press” aren’t news? Where was the warning to viewers before former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s first appearance on NBC News or MSNBC after she became a paid contributor? Or any of the other stable of Democrat government officials who are now paid to opine on the network’s air?

I mean, come on. Does NBC News think its viewers are so unfit to hear from a Republican? Apparently so. The horror of intellectual diversity, or something…

Over on “Morning Joe,” the lovebird co-hosts didn’t handle the matter any better. “I know you won’t be surprised to know that we’ve been inundated with calls this weekend, as have most people connected with this network about NBC’s decision to hire her,” Joe Scarborough said Monday morning. “We learned about the hiring when we read about it in the press on Friday,” he added, seeming to imply that company executives should have asked his permission to bring McDaniel aboard as a paid commentator.

“We hope NBC will reconsider its decision,” Mika Brzezinski piped up. “It goes without saying that she will not be a guest on ‘Morning Joe’ in her capacity as a paid contributor,” she declared.

It’s a mix of entitlement and disrespect for the audience that causes hosts on NBC News and MSNBC to behave in such an inane manner.

It’s the same phenomenon seen when MSNBC and CNN refuse to carry live remarks by former President Donald Trump, also the presumptive Republican nominee for this November’s rematch against Biden. Do they really think their (dwindling) viewers can’t make up their own minds? Or is it they’re afraid that giving Trump a platform might cause their viewers to consider supporting the former president in 2024?

There’s more of the same nonsense over on CNN where Trump speeches are sometimes carried, only to be interrupted or followed up by one of the network’s self-appointed fact-checkers to supposedly correct what Trump said.

While CNN and NBC/MSNBC furiously attempt to prevent Trump’s words from reaching their audience or seek to render them debunked, the fact-checking elite are not entirely, but considerably more, quiet about speeches and claims delivered by President Biden. When the current White House occupant’s statements are gently scrutinized, it turns into a kid-gloves discussion of how Biden is a grandfatherly and good-hearted man who sometimes exaggerates his past experiences to connect with his audience.

Here at Townhall, we don’t engage in this lunacy. We trust our loyal readers to get their news and then make up their own minds about what it means for them, their families, and our country. We don’t give you what amounts to a “trigger warning” before we deliver something a Democrat said. We don’t think we know better than you what you can or cannot handle.

Thanks to our loyal VIP members, we’re also increasingly able to tell leftist wokescolds and Big Tech censors to, as Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana said, “shove it up their fact-checker” due to direct support that immunizes Townhall against the efforts of leftists to control what we say and how we say it.

Coddling your audience might be official practice for the fragile leftists at CNN and NBC, but it’s now how we do things. As it turns out, we think you can handle the truth and all the information in order to make up your own mind about the frequent chaos swirling around us all.

To those who’ve already joined VIP, thank you for helping us show that treating readers as adults is the best way to operate. If you haven’t yet made the jump, we’d love to have you join us as a partner in our truth-telling, full-picture reporting. Whether it’s NBC and CNN melting down over Trump or The New York Times devolving into a preschool crying room over an op-ed by a sitting U.S. senator, Townhall is one of the last places where conservative ideas can be freely and fearlessly published. From columns to news stories, you can count on Townhall not to coddle you.
