The 47-Year Iran-Israel War and the Question of Legitimacy

yesterday

Two days ago – that is, on 3rd April – Al Jazeera, the mouthpiece of Qatar and all Iranian proxies, carried an article about the legitimacy of Operations Rising Lion and Epic Fury against Iran.

No prizes to those who have guessed the conclusion – or, rather, the opening salvos – in the article’s first paragraph, in which it is claimed that Israel and the USA were in breach of the UN Charter and that these operations constituted aggression.

The main drift of the rest of the Al Jazeera article was that Iran did not present a threat which could be classified as “imminent”.

Imminence of a threat was necessary according to the relevant UN Charter’s articles, in order for preemptive action to be acceptable.

It is here proposed that, perhaps at least since 1979, when Ruhollah Khomeini was installed in Tehran, that the war started by the ayatollahs continues today.

Some may argue that a war between Muslims and Jews has been ongoing since perhaps as early as the 570 CE, when Mohammed was born.

This cannot be true, however – viz the peaceful coexistence of both in North Africa in the 13th century, for example.

“Imminence”, taking the overall span of the war into consideration, takes on a new meaning – a meaning which it is in the Al Jazeera’s journalist’s interest to ignore.

The war with Iran, even when limited to a life of 47 years, is composed of many operations, including those against Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthies and other proxies in Iraq and Syria.

Who was it who first committed the act of aggression in the war against Iran?

From the first few years after his accession to power, Ali Khameni’s predecessor, Ruhollah Khomeini, the first Supreme Leader, was set on exporting the Islamic Revolution. For this to happen, the financing and training of his proxies were necessary.

Islamists will agree that islamisation of as many nations and countries as possible is the fundamental goal of being a Muslim.

Even if one were blinkered and brainwashed to believe that the war against Iran started with the Six-day War and Operation Midnight Hammer, the two democracies could argue that a new provision must be made which would accommodate preemptive wars where the threat is not “imminent”.

And the necessity for a vote to be taken by the UN in this context should be done away with forthwith, as success of preemption relies on the timing of the action which in turn must be known solely to the preemptors.

But it is here claimed that all the operations by Israel and the USA against Iran in the 20th and 21st centuries have been just operations – in a war that started at least as far back as 1979.

Those who argue otherwise seek to propagandise and stir up hatred between the Muslims and Christians and the Jews around the world.
