A Dark Day For London – The Together Alliance Rally

On a beautiful spring day, the centre of London teemed with an ugly hate as the so-called Together Alliance marched through the city centre. “Together Against The Far Right” was the crowd’s mantra, that saw pro-Palestinians and trade-unionists along with busloads of other activists gather in their thousands.

To the relentless beat of numerous drums the marchers may have loudly proclaimed an anti-fascist credo, but with their countless flags supporting Gaza and the Islamic Republic of Iran, both territories ruled by fascist and authoritarian doctrine, the irony of the crowd’s ignorance was overwhelming.

As chants decrying Israel as a terrorist state, and calling for the ‘One-State’ solution of a ‘Free Palestine, from the river to the sea’ rang out, it was clear that the only bond of togetherness amongst the marchers was a hatred of the Jewish state. The afternoon was to contain yet more prophetic irony, for as those Middle Eastern flags filled the streets of the UK’s capital, there was not a British flag, the Union Jack, to be seen anywhere.

In a brave display of defiance, Mark Birkbeck and Kurpa Patel from Our Fight led a counter-protest against the antisemitic and antizionist torrent.

Sadly, in the 2 1/2 years since October 7th, Gazan flags on London’s streets have become commonplace. What was most disturbing today however was seeing how much of the fabric of the UK has been captured by those who bear little loyalty towards this country. It is well known by now that the BBC and in particular its news teams, has long fallen under the influence of Islamist sympathisers. But to see flags and banners from the country’s major trade-unions, many of them once noble and principled organisations, alongside banners from constituents of the NHS (the UK’s National Health Service), proudly carried alongside such a united face of hatred was chilling. That so many branches of the various teachers’ trade-unions were there, trade-unions whose members are responsible for the education of our youth, was frankly terrifying.

The Together Alliance marked a dark day for the country, its capital city and its Jews
