Internet Boom

The Household Integrated Economic Survey conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has revealed a development of profound significance for the country’s future: household internet access has risen from 34 per cent to 70 per cent. This is a transformative shift.

For years, Pakistan lagged behind much of the world in both internet speeds and household connectivity. At 34 per cent, internet access was confined largely to major urban centres and their immediate surroundings and ancillary areas. At 70 per cent, however, connectivity now extends deep into rural districts and far-flung regions that were previously isolated from the national mainstream. This expansion brings with it a complex mix of opportunities and challenges.
