Watch live: Wright testifies before House on Energy Department 2027 budget request

Energy Secretary Chris Wright will testify before the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday afternoon about the White House’s fiscal 2027 budget request for energy policies.

The hearing comes as energy costs have skyrocketed amid the U.S. operation in Iran following the regime’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a key shipping channel for oil transports — and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks on energy infrastructure and U.S. targets. The U.S. military’s blockade on the strait has not alleviated the high prices.

President Trump’s budget request for the Energy Department is focused on bolstering energy dominance, strengthening nuclear security, driving domestic critical minerals production, refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserves and increasing water security, according to the memo. It also includes a new proposal to eliminate a program that assists low-income Americans in heating and cooling their homes.

It is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.
