Voters under the age of 30 in a new Emerson College poll said the economy is the biggest issue the country faces as the 2024 election looms near.
The poll, published Friday, found that 44 percent of respondents under 30 years old or younger said that the economy is the most important issue the country is currently facing.
In comparison, 14 percent of young voters polled said that healthcare is the most significant issue the country faces, as 10 percent of those surveyed cited education as a critical issue.
Listed issues such as crime and housing affordability both received 8 percent of support from respondents under 30 years old or younger, according to the poll.
Seventy-six percent of respondents under the age of 30 believe that their parents’ generation had better economic opportunities than they currently have today, while 24 percent of those surveyed disagree.
The new poll also detailed President Biden’s approval rating among voters headed into the 2024 election.
Forty-one percent of respondents in the poll said they approved of the job Biden is doing as president, while 51 percent of those surveyed did not.
This comes as Biden’s approval rating among voters between the ages of 18 and 24 is at 35 percent, while he received a 41 percent approval rating from voters who are between the ages of 25 and 29.
In a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary, 64 percent of respondents said they would support former President Trump, while former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley received support from 14 percent of respondents.
Seven percent of respondents said they would support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary, while former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy received four percent of support from respondents polled in the survey.
The Emerson College poll was conducted from December 4 to December 6 with a total of 1,000 respondents participating in the survey. The poll’s margin of error was three percentage points.
