What to know about RFK Jr.'s VP pick

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., of the infamous political dynasty, is continuing his third-party bid for president, and now he’s dubbed attorney Nicole Shanahan his partner in the long-shot race.

Shanahan, 38, is a California attorney, philanthropist and entrepreneur. She is founder and president of private nonprofit Bia-Echo Foundation and serves as founder and CEO of patent analytics company ClearAccessIP.

Shanahan gave $4 million to a political action committee (PAC) supporting RFK Jr.'s campaign called American Values 2024, a week before the group ran a controversial Super Bowl ad supporting Kennedy and drawing on the legacy of the candidate's uncle, former President John F. Kennedy.

Shanahan was married to Google co-founder Sergey Brin from 2018-2023.

In his introduction Kennedy described Shanahan as “my fellow lawyer, a brilliant scientist, technologist, a fierce warrior-mom.”

Kennedy’s announcement creates a pathway for him to get on the ballot in more states that require a declared running mate. (The Hill)

NBC faces backlash from stars after McDaniel hire

© Getty Images

Talent at NBC News is slamming the network over its decision to hire former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel to provide commentary for 2024 election coverage.

Hosts like Mika Brzezinski of "Morning Joe" and Rachel Maddow have slammed the decision on air in the wake of the announcement.

“To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage,” Brzezinski said Monday. “But it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier. And we hope NBC will reconsider its decision,” he continued, referring to McDaniel's hiring.

Maddow called the decision to put McDaniel on the payroll at NBC "inexplicable," during her primetime show Monday evening. She also urged the network to rethink the hire.

“Take a minute, acknowledge that maybe it wasn’t the right call,” she said. “It is a sign of strength, not weakness, to acknowledge when you are wrong. And our country needs us to be strong right now.”

Following the backlash, NBC is reportedly plotting a path to quickly reverse its decision and part ways with the former RNC chair, according to Puck News. The Hill has not been able to independently confirm this information.
