California dreaming has become a political reality for all Americans whether they like it or not.
Much to the dismay of Republicans everywhere, the Great Bear Republic has become the center of the national political universe. The Golden State’s great wealth, its sheer size and its massive impact on national media content sets national trends, even though it is a reliably blue dominion.
The bright spotlight shines now on the wide-open race for governor after the sudden and stunning departure of the disgraced former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.).
The state will also play a major role in the Democratic fight to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives this year after the state’s redistricting effort created a handful of new Democratic congressional seats.
That’s not all. Right after this year’s adventures conclude, the presidential race will begin in earnest with two Californians, Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris at center stage as leading contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. It wouldn’t be a real party without three home grown hopefuls, so Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) is also considering a race for the White House.
The topsy turvy gubernatorial free-for-all dominates the airways and internet after Swalwell’s departure in the midst of sexual assault allegations and just before the last debate. The hopefuls for governor debated for a second time Tuesday night.
