Cuba’s liberation day is closer than you think

Certain dates hold a great significance. On Jan. 3, 1990, the U.S. carried out Operation Just Cause, extracting Panama’s narco-dictator, Manuel Noriega. Thirty-six years later, on Jan. 3, 2026, Nicolas Maduro was successfully captured during Operation Absolute Resolve. 

May 20 marked Cuba’s Independence Day — a historic event in which the U.S. played a pivotal role. The writing on the wall seems to suggest that this date could also mark the beginning of the end of 67 years of communist rule in Cuba. 

Just a few weeks ago, the U.S. conducted a strategic exercise in Key West, Florida, demonstrating the integration of unmanned systems and artificial intelligence. It all happened very close to Cuba. For the very first time, the U.S. showcased the Southcom Autonomous Warfare Command, which employs cost-effective autonomous, semi-autonomous and unmanned platforms and systems to counter threats and challenges throughout the Americas. 

As if that were not enough, a CNN report noted that, since February, at least 25 intelligence-gathering flights have been conducted off the coast of Cuba. The majority of these flights were carried out using reconnaissance drones and aircraft for surveillance, reconnaissance and signals intelligence-collection.
