Town leisure centre going cashless sparks heated debate

News of a leisure centre in Cricklade going cashless sparked a heated debate among our readers.

Difficulties managing cash, which included the lack of a nearby bank and the town’s Post Office no longer accepting cash deposits, led to staff at the leisure facility on Stones Lane switching to a digital payment system.

Here’s what you had to say on the matter.

Jessica James said: “This is a community-run leisure centre and it's marvellous.

“There isn't a bank in Cricklade anymore for them to bank any cash, so this is a necessary step.

“I, and other patrons, can cope with the minor inconvenience of remembering to take a bank card with us, to support the leisure centre.”

Stephanie Kaye said: “They have given a very good reason for going cashless and have given plenty of warning.”
