Disappearing Swindon mini-roundabout sparks road safty debate
Disappearing road markings making it difficult to see a mini-roundabout at a busy Old Town junction sparked a lot of discussion.
Most of the road markings around the point which connects High Street, Marlborough Road, and Newport Street in Old Town have recently been refurbished.
But the broken white ‘give way’ line on the Marlborough Road side of the junction has not been redone, and the central circle surrounded by arrows has faded so much that it is barely visible.
This led to concerns about drivers who are unfamiliar with the area potentially treating the route as a straight line, making it harder for people on Newport Street to turn right.

Karen McPherson said: “The roundabout at Beechcroft Road/Meadowcroft disappeared after the road was repaired. A stranger to the area may not realise it’s a roundabout, it needs repainting.
Hilary Brooks replied: “We had a near miss there on Friday because the other driver didn't realise it was a roundabout. There are a lot of roundabouts that need repainting.”
Marie Withers replied: “It's been reported. The local MP also knows about it. I've had so many near misses there, I swerved onto the other side of the road to avoid a woman crashing into the side of my car while my grandchildren were in the car.”
