Debate after most common crime in Swindon town centre increases
Swindon's neighbourhood wardens speaking about the most common crime in the town centre sparked a lot of discussion.
Currently, Swindon only has four of these wardens, which target antisocial behaviour.
They say crime in the town is rapidly changing and there has been a significant rise in the use of illegal electric bikes and scooters.
Alcohol-related issues are no longer the main problem in Swindon town centre, but a rise in the use of illegal electric bikes and scooters, say the wardens.
According to the wardens, the huge decrease in alcohol-related crime, particularly in the town centre, is in direct response to the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that was introduced by Swindon Borough Council earlier this year.
Here’s what you had to say on the effectiveness of the wardens and the most frequent antisocial behaviour in the area.
Luke Musto said: “Is it people shouting at hotels?”
Wayland Smith said: “Swindon has 400 Police Officers and 4 Neighbourhood Wardens, but the Police seem to treat the four wardens as discharging all of their responsibilities for neighbourhood policing while they lurk over at Gablecross out of the way.”
Liam Browner said: “Are they only patrolling during the day as I never see them at night, I live in town.”........
