New Year’s Resolutions: Your job search, career goals and personal branding in sports

A quick Google search of the top New Year’s resolutions turns up the usual suspects for the year ahead. Steering and customizing these into your, mine and our collective sports industry aspirations and purposeful goals is my intent.

Exercise More: Strengthen your strengths — those hard and soft skills you already view as your best traits. Make them stronger. Flex those muscles.

Eat healthier/diet: Slowly chip away at your weaknesses. Maybe a weakness will truly never go away — so work on limiting how often it shows up or how long it sticks around. Crash diets don’t work for weight loss goals, and crash diets won’t work when going cold turkey on your weaknesses.

Improve mental health: Take those walks instead of a smoke break, try not to answer work emails on weekends and put the phone down at the dinner table. Desk yoga may work for some; listening to a podcast works for others.

Get more sleep: Rest. There is no award for the fewest PTO days used. If David Goggins can get seven-eight hours of sleep, so can you. Unless you have the ability to nap........
