Jessica Morden MP reflects on 2025

Firstly, may I take this opportunity to wish South Wales Argus readers a very Happy New Year. I hope your Christmas has been peaceful and full of joy.

As I head back to Westminster next week for the start of the new session of Parliament, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year and some of the people I have met from right across Newport East who, in the face of adversity, are doing incredible things to make the world a better place for others.

One of these people is the remarkable Emma Webb from Lliswerry, whom I first met in 2024. Just before the pandemic, Emma’s daughter, Brodie – then 16 - took her own life. Devastated, Emma has spent the almost six years since investing all of her energy into raising awareness of suicide prevention charities and raising funds for them by walking the length and breadth of the country with a life-size model pony named Myles. She has raised around £100,000 and attracted the support of the Prince of Wales with her endeavours.

Over the last year, Emma launched her CIC, Do It For Brodie, an organisation aimed at raising awareness of suicide prevention for young people. She works with young people and groups, using her two cheeky Shetland ponies as icebreakers. Her strength, tenacity, and ability to turn her grief into something positive is........
