There is no mystery about it – mystery books and videos are always in demand by library customers! In celebration of Mystery Month this May, the library is thrilled to offer an outstanding array of mystery-themed content. With your library card, you can enjoy a vast selection of mysteries available for borrowing, downloading, or streaming at no cost.

The library updates its collection each week with fresh titles in mystery books, eBooks, and audiobooks. Our online catalogue is continuously updated, so check it for the most recent additions. Highlights include the forthcoming book The Dark Wives by Anne Cleaves, where detective Vera Stanhope investigates a murder at a care home for troubled teens. Is one of the home’s residents, a fourteen-year-old girl, responsible for the murder? When a second body is found in the wilds of the Northumbrian countryside, superstition and folklore begin to collide with fact.

Fans of cozy mysteries will enjoy Rita Mae Brown’s latest offering, Feline Fatale. Political passions turn deadly when a young page dies under mysterious circumstances at the Virginia General Assembly. Hoping to crack the case and keep the fur from flying, Mary Minor “Harry” Haristeen calls on her feline sidekicks, Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, as well as Tee Tucker, the corgi and Irish Greyhound Pirate, to find the answers and restore order to the Capitol.

For our younger readers, James Patterson’s book Minerva Keen’s Detective Club is an engaging choice. Written for readers ages eight to twelve, the book combines quirky characters and slapstick buffoonery as twelve-year-old Minerva Keen forms a detective club to uncover who is poisoning residents of her storied Chicago apartment building.

Television mystery lovers will be thrilled at the amazing collection of programs available to stream for free with their library card from Hoopla Digital. Watch the best mystery shows from the BBC, including Death in Paradise, Father Brown, and Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators. You can also explore international mystery titles, including Captain Marleau from France, Wisting from Norway, Arctic Circle from Finland, and Inspector Rex (a German Shepherd police dog) from Austria. Additionally, fans can stream all sixteen seasons of the beloved Canadian series Murdoch Mysteries, which features many recognizable locations around Branford, including the former Carnegie Library.
