To our Rewire community:

When I joined Rewire News Group shortly after the 2024 election, I did so with the strong belief that independent journalism—and particularly journalism that provides accurate information about reproductive rights and justice—is essential to a healthy democracy.

The same forces that we’ve seen undermine reproductive freedom leading to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision ending federal abortion protections in 2022 have been attacking press freedom throughout 2025. I see these attacks —on reproductive rights, the press and beyond—as part of the Trump administration’s broader efforts to dismantle democratic institutions, silence marginalized communities, and restrict many people’s right to, quite frankly, exist in the world.

I’ve spent the majority of my media career using digital platforms to reach new audiences and build community. But in recent years, I found myself feeling more and more uneasy with the way legacy outlets were covering the intersectional issues that speak to someone like me: a Black woman of reproductive age.
