ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former finance minister on Wednesday announced his withdrawal from the general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.

He informed the Supreme Court about his decision through his lawyer when a bench comprising Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Jamal Mandokhel heard a petition filed by Azhar against rejection of his nomination papers.

During the hearing, his lawyer told the bench that the former minister did not want to pursue his appeal.

At one point, Justice Mansoor asked why the high court had given a reference of Article 62 (1) f in his decision. He observed that the apex court had made it clear that Article 62 (1) f does not apply by itself.

Justice Mansoor further added that the PTI leader would be unable to take benefit of the apex court’s ruling due to withdrawal of his petition.

Later, Hammad Azhar’s lawyer told that his client, who had submitted nomination papers from NA-129, had announced to withdraw from the general elections.
