ISLAMABAD – Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan during the current week.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely enter western parts of Pakistan on Tuesday evening/night. It will likely grip most parts of Pakistan on April 17 (Wednesday). Under the influence of this weather system, widespread intermittent rains are likely in parts of Pakistan from April 16 (night) to April 21.

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy are expected across Balochistan from April 16 (night) to April 19 (morning). Rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy and isolated very heavy falls are likely in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from April 17 to April 21. Intermittent rains with few heavy falls and snowfall over high mountains are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from April 18 to April 22. Rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls and hailstorms are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore and parts of Punjab from April 18 to April 21. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad and parts of Sindh from April 17 to April 19.

Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of Balochistan from April 17 to April 18, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from April 18 to April 20. Landslides are expected in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan from April 18 to April 21.

Windstorms/hailstorms and lightning may damage standing crops, and loose structures like electric poles and solar panels during the period. Farmers are advised to manage their crops keeping in view the weather conditions. Tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travelling during the forecast period. Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.
