ISLAMABAD – Rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are predicted in Murree, Galyat and other tourist destinations in Pakistan from Sunday night to Tuesday (February 25-27).

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on Sunday night (February 25). It will likely grip the upper parts of the country on Monday (February 26).

Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely in Murree, Galyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohat, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from February 25 night to February 27 with occasional gaps. Isolated hailstorms may also occur during this period.

Possible Impacts and advises: Snowfall may disrupt traffic in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli on February 26 evening/night & February 27. The possibility of landslides in Murree, Galyat, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan cannot be ruled out during the forecast period.

Murree’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -02-00 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, freezing weather prevailed in Murree, Galyat and other tourist destinations in Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Malam Jabba received 03 mm rain and 01 inch snowfall.

Kalam remained the coldest place where temperature dropped 13 C below freezing.

In Murree, minimum temperature was recorded at -01 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 76 per cent.
