LAHORE – Following resignation of Aalia Rasheed, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday appointed Sami ul Hasan Burney as Director Media and Communication.

The PCB has confirmed the development through a post shared on the microblogging platform X, formerly Twitter.

Aalia Rasheed, a senior sports journalist, was appointed as PCB Director Media and Communication in October last year. She made the history by becoming the first female to hold this office.

As per the insiders, interference in the media department caused Aalia Rasheed to step down. Prior to her, Directors of Legal and Commercial wings had tendered resignations.

The sources said that the PCB had decided to undertake a complete overhaul of its departments in an effort to enhance its operations.

There are considerations, they said, to completely revamp and reorganize certain divisions within the PCB, which may lead to personnel changes as part of the restructuring process.

Sami Burney has served as Director Media before the office was given to the senior sports journalist. Former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf first transferred Mr Burney to Vigilance Department and later terminated his services. Burney’s services were restored by the Lahore high Court. Presently, he was working at National cricket Academy Lahore.

As per the insiders, former caretaker provincial minister Naeem Mir has been appointed as consultant of PCB chairman.
