DUBAI – Eid-ul Fitr marks one of two major Islamic festivals of the year as Muslims fast whole month to celebrate the event and now a prolonged break is awaited ahead.

This year, residents of the United Arab Emirates will enjoy the nine-day Eid holidays. The holiday could be extended to 9 days, from April 8 onwards. People in the Emirates will enjoy the key event without applying for annual leave.

The current holy month of Ramadan lasts either 29 or 30 days but the exact dates are subject to the moon sighting. Eid is celebrated at start of the 10th Islamic month Shawwal.

In case of 30 days of Ramadan, the Eid 2024 holidays will be from April 8-April 12, including two weekends. If holy month lasts 29 days, the break will be from April 8 to April 11, including weekends, for a total of nine days off.

Eidul Fitr’s break spans five days, starting after a weekend and ending before the second weekend. This means that residents of the UAE can have nine continuous days off from work, from April 6 to April 14.

The situation in Pakistan is different from Gulf nations. In Asian nation, the first day of the annual event is expected to be held on April 10 or 11. The next two days are of weekend April 13 and 14 and people may enjoy a five-day Eid holiday.

If people opt to extend their Eid break by including Monday and Tuesday, they would also be able to enjoy a 9 Eid holiday akin to UAE.
