ISLAMABAD – Disgruntled Pakistani speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi on Saturday quits the Army fitness camp being held in Kakul.

Sources familiar with the development said Afridi, 24, will join the Pakistani squad at Iftar dinner, which is being arranged for a meeting of national cricket team members with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir.

Shaheen Afridi made the unusual move after his abrupt removal from T20 captaincy.

Amid the speculations, Pakistan Cricket Board cleared air that Shaheen departed with formal permission and that he is celebrating his birthday today.

Shaheen was named as skipper of the national squad after Babar Azam stepped down from leading in all formats over murky World Cup campaign. Afridi however remained in hot waters and Pakistan lost series to New Zealand under his watch.

The left-arm pacer was not happy with the PCB’s lack of communication about his removal as captain. He was also upset by a statement issued after his removal from captaincy, which included statement not released by him.

The young cricketer then shared a cryptic post on social media, suggesting he may show a side of himself others may not expect if his patience is tested further.

Afridi reportedly expressed his willingness to move forward from the situation under the current setup.
