LAHORE – Muslims in Pakistan and parts of word will observe Shab-e-Qadr or Laylat ul-Qadr, the holiest night of Ramadan.

Faithful will observe special prayers tonight with Quran recitation and Nawafils. Shab-e-Qadr holds great significance as it marks occasion when Holy Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad PBUH.

As per Islamic traditions, Hazrat Gabriel appeared before Prophet Muhammad at the cave of Hira outside Mecca during spiritual contemplation. It was first time the Prophet recited the first verses of the Holy Quran.

Over the period of next 23 years, Prophet PBUH continues to receive revelations, completing Holy Quran.

To mark the Shab-e-Qadr, worshippers thronged mosques for special prayers. For the unversed, the exact date of Laylat al-Qadr is unspecified, but it is believed to be in odds nights of Ramadan’s last Ashra.

As per the Islamic beliefs, praying in this night is better than a thousand months and that prayers and worship performed on this night are highly rewarded.

Hazrat Aisha RA, the wife of Prophet Muhammad SAW and Mother of Believers, said, ‘Look for Lailat-ul-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.’
