Judges as corporate lawyers, Trump as CEO

Kearny, N.J.: “The business of America is business” is a quote attributed to one of the worst Republican presidents of the last century (there are so many to choose from), Calvin Coolidge. With this in mind, no one should be surprised by the 7-2 ruling of the Supreme Court shielding the manufacturer of the weedkiller Roundup from claims that its principal component, glyphosate, causes cancer in users.

Despite the growing awareness of glyphosate’s threats to human and pollinator health, and bans on its use in cities, states and countries around the world, President Trump recently signed an order compelling production of the product, declaring it a national priority and granting immunity to producers. On top of his weakening of environmental protections to allow more forever chemicals in our drinking water, and mercury, arsenic and lead in the air we breathe, this should make it clear to all that our government just doesn’t give a you-know-what about us.

As “Silent Cal” suggested, America isn’t so much a country as it is a very poorly run holding company for a bunch of soulless, greedy corporations. And if you think our human masters are terrible, wait ’til all the decisions are being made by the AI-driven systems that Trump and his cabal of oligarchic toadies are dying to roll out.
