Rising childhood poverty in Norfolk being tackled by new organisation
Rise & Shine Norfolk CIC is a new social enterprise providing free or heavily subsidised beds and bedding to children across the county who do not have a safe or suitable place to sleep. Its launch comes amid growing concern about the scale of childhood bed poverty in Norfolk and the damaging impact that poor sleep can have on children’s health, wellbeing and educational outcomes.
The organisation was founded by Sara Kenny, a mum-of-three from Hethersett, who said the idea grew from a growing awareness of the issue locally.
“We believe a safe, comfortable place to sleep is a basic right, not a privilege,” she said. “Our mission is to improve children’s health, dignity and educational opportunities by helping to address childhood bed poverty across Norfolk.
“Rise & Shine has been born out of a desire to help children who, through no fault of their own, do not have a good quality bed to sleep on.”
Initially, Rise & Shine Norfolk CIC has partnered with West Earlham........
