Alexandru-iulian Nistor, 30, is said to have brazenly wheeled a shopping trolley laden with dozens of bottles of spirits out of Morrisons on Riverside.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told the Moldovan had later been identified from CCTV footage following the incident in September 2022.

Amongst the items worth almost £2,000 that had been stolen were 48 bottles of Smirnoff Berry Blast, 43 bottles of Absolut vodka and 19 bottles of Whitley Neil gin, the court was told.

Nistor, who gave an address in Forest Gate in east London, pleaded not guilty to a single charge of shop theft.

His defence solicitor said he had no recollection of the incident and disputes it was him captured on video footage.

He will stand trial at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on November 25. He was given bail on the condition not to enter the Morrisons store.

Deputy District Judge Jacqui Appleton declined an application to transfer the case to Coventry Magistrates where he was is facing separate allegations.
