Shane Percival, previously a lance corporal with the Royal Anglian Regiment, was found guilty after a trial at Norwich Crown Court in 2022.

The offences happened December 2011 and August 2013, when Percival was between 16 and 18 and the victim – who cannot be named for legal reasons - was aged between nine and 10.

She came forward and confided in a teacher at the age of 15.

At the time, it was heard by the court how her mental health suffered and how she turned to self-harm and made attempts to take her own life.

Percival, who had been stationed at Woolwich Barracks and in Cyprus, was jailed........
