Woman, 52, dies from blood clot after flying home from holiday with broken ankle

Dawn Lossau, 52, tripped down some stairs while carrying her luggage as she was preparing to head to the airport to catch her flight home.

She stayed for three days in a hospital on the Greek island but then opted to take a four-hour flight back to the UK to continue her treatment here.

On her return, Mrs Lossau - who worked at Norfolk law firm Leathes Prior - went straight from the airport to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and had her ankle reset before going home to recover.

However, three weeks later, her husband Darrell found her collapsed in their Spixworth home.

An inquest into her death, held this month, heard that flights of four hours or more can increase the risk of blood clots because they form when legs are immobile for long periods of time.

The hearing was told how Mrs Lossau - whose daughter Masie died in 2022 after a long battle with a brain tumour - had suffered the accident on October 1, just as she and Darrell were about to fly home from their trip.

She "fell in a heap" after she tripped down some stairs while carrying her hand luggage.

She was taken by ambulance to a hospital on the island and had her ankle put in a cast.

The staff asked her if she wanted to go home to have an operation or........
