New Delhi: Papakōlea Green Sand Beach on the southern tip of Hawaii’s Big Island offers a coastal experience that is considered one of the most unusual in the world. The sand naturally appears green because of olivine crystals present in the surrounding cinder cone, Puʻu Mahana. This formation dates back thousands of years to a Mauna Loa eruption, and the erosion of the cone gradually spread the minerals across the shore.
