New Delhi: Former Zimbabwe allrounder Guy Whittall escaped death once again after surviving a leopard attack that left him injured. He was on a trek with his dog in the Humani Region where he runs a conservancy. His pet dog Chikara also got injured while he was fighting with the leopard to protect Whittall from the attack.

Whittall has a history of close encounters in September 2013, he survived the eight-foot-long crocodile that had somehow found its way under his bed at home. According to reports, Whittall and his father discovered a sleeping crocodile in the morning after Whittall had slept through the night with his legs dangling off the bed.

His wife Hannah Stooks-Whittall confirmed the incident on Facebook and said that Whittall was stabilised at the Hippo Clinic and then he was airlifted from Buffalo Range to Harare.

“Guy’s run in with a wounded leopard earlier today. We are very fortunate that he was stabilized at Hippo Clinic by wonderful staff. He was then airlifted from Buffalo Range by ace ambulance to Harare, and then transferred to Milton Park Hospital for treatment. He is currently awaiting surgery tomorrow morning as he lost a lot of blood today”. She wrote on Facebook.

She also thanked her dog for protecting her husband from the leopard “Our faithful K9 Chikara, his handler and trackers. Chikara coming up tomorrow to the vet after being mauled by the leopard and getting the cat off Guy! Very special boy”.

Whittall made a great contribution to Zimbabwe’s historic test win against Pakistan in 1995 with a magnificent century. He played 46 Tests and 147 ODIs for Zimbabwe. He scored 4912 runs and took 139 wickets across both formats for his country.
