HAL plans Tejas Mk1A deliveries this year; 26 airframes ready

HAL currently has 26 Tejas Mk1A airframes ready at its aircraft facility, according to HAL CMD Ravi K. The airframes have undergone checks, with the available engines being used sequentially for testing. An engine is fitted onto one aircraft, following which the necessary checks are carried out. The engine is then removed and fitted onto another airframe for a similar round of checks.

New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has reiterated that it plans to deliver Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF) within this year, although the company has not specified the number of aircraft to be delivered or provided a firm timeline.

Speaking exclusively to News9, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K said the company was working towards meeting the delivery target but stopped short of committing to a specific schedule.

“I can plan for a timeline but when we will be able to do it, can’t say. But we are planning to deliver this year,” Ravi K said.
